1. Distance from batter

• once batter takes stance, measure hands length from back elbow of hitter
• split home plate:  (inside foot on point of plate, for either direction)
• weight shift to balls of feet then left or right for inside or outside pitches

2. Signal position

• feet shoulder width apart
• fingers on inseam to crotch
• hide signal from 3rd base coach with glove

3. Stance with no runners on base

• squat (fanny below knees) with weight on inside of feet
• free hand behind back with thumb inside fist
• catching arm outside and off knee
• glove hand: out front - slightly flexed (not too far into body, and do not over extend)

4. Receiving the pitch

• fingers up to give target
• as pitcher reaches release point, glove turns to can of coke (keeps hand loose)

5. Position with runners on base

• signal from squat, than move feet wider than shoulders
• shift weight to balls of feet
• come to crouch position (sitting in a chair, fanny down)
• free hand behind glove with thumb in fist
• glove foot in front of other foot (prepared to turn and throw)

6. Two ways to throw to 2nd base

• jump turn: get to front side and load (do not step on plate, you can slip)
• keep legs flexed and stay low
• grab ball in 4 seams
• jab step: step forward in front of plate  (less arm strength)(must be quick)
• rest same as jump turn

7. Four seam grip

• grab ball across 4 seams (twirl ball in hand and find seams without looking)
• avoids having ball tail on throw
